I’ve always been fascinated by the solid shampoo bars at Lush, but never tried one. Finally, after hearing my annoying back-and-forth about them for the better part of 6 months, my friend bought me one for my birthday.
The reason I didn’t just get one myself is because:
- I didn’t understand how they worked
- I definitely have too much hair for one of these little things, right?
- Seriously how does it work?
Well, let me address those concerns up front, because I imagine I’m not the only person who was confused by these things.
How it works: Wet the entire bar, and then rub it all over your scalp and hair in the shower. It’s a weirdly fun experience, and it gets sudsy just like any shampoo. Just keep rubbing until you feel as though you are adequately sudsy. It doesn’t take as long as you’d think, and it’s not as impractical as it seems.
What if you have thick/a lot of hair? Then just keep rubbing until your hair is covered. It really took a few seconds, and trust me when I say that my hair is thick. Like, scary thick. My hair dresser used to compare my hair to a steak–that thick.
What’s in it? Sodium Lauryl Sulfate , Agar , Water (Aqua) , Argan Oil (Argania spinosa) , Glycerine , Fragrance , Organic Rose Absolute (Rosa Damascena) , Geranium Oil (Pelargonium graveolens) , Rose Oil (Rosa damascena) , Sicilian Lemon Oil (Citrus limonum) , *Limonene , Coumarin , Citronellol ,Geraniol , Red 33 . *Occurs naturally in essential oils
What does it smell like? It’s Rose-Jam scented (if you’ve ever smelled Lush’s Rose Jam…it’s pretty insanely delicious smelling), and there’s a slight hint of Argan Oil smell as well. Bailey sniffed it and approved, two paws up.
The only reservation I have about this bar is that it felt like it really stripped my hair. You want shampoo to clean your hair, but you also need to strike a balance with how harsh the cleaning aspect is. However, it’s been two days, and my hair is still shiny and smells lovely. Just make sure you’re using this shampoo with good conditioner and hair products.

I am totally surprised your review was that you felt like it stripped your hair! I was like ok.. argan oil is in the title I bet this is another amazing product by Lush. My hair is already so dry I would be afraid to use it. Cool idea though. Appreciate the review!

I had a similar reaction to my Braziliant shampoo bar. I love the smell and it has totally helped my scalp, but my hair also feels very stripped afterward. I want to go back to my local Lush and see if they can recommend a conditioner to use with it.
Thanks for the review!

Weirdly enough, after I posted my review, a rep from Lush tweeted at me suggesting I try Brazilliant I’ll give it a shot and see what happens!

I LOVE Lush! It is by far one of my favorite stores to go to, I wish they had one closer than 4 hours away from me!

This was my very first shampoo bar too, I found it quite crumbly and I know what you mean by it being quite strippy. I now use Honey I Washed My Hair & Seanik!
